What is IPL Photofacial?

An IPL Photofacial is a procedure in which intense pulses of light are used to penetrate deep into the skin. This specialized laser targets the uneven pigment and sunspots on your face, neck, and chest. The treatment also causes collagen and blood vessels below the epidermis to constrict, reducing redness and age lines. This treatment targets pigment and is not suitable for darker skin types. Not sure if you’re a candidate for IPL? Book a consultation with one of our estheticians for a skin assessment and recommendations.

How Long Does the IPL Photofacial Last?

The IPL Photofacial has long-lasting results, but won’t stop your skin from incurring further sun damage, so IPL Photofacials are great to do for maintenance. We have many patients who consider IPL Photofacials to be their “Recovery” from summer each year.

Does the IPL Photofacial Hurt?

IPL Photofacial can be a little uncomfortable, but we actually will adjust our settings based on your comfort level. Pain signals to us that the settings are not right for your skin, so we will adjust to make sure you are comfortable! You may feel some heat, but most people don’t complain that it is too painful.

Is There Any Downtime or Recovery After This Treatment?

Most people may look a little red (like a sunburn) for the first 24 hours. Some people may see their dark spots turn a little darker, like coffee grounds, which will flake off as you heal. In general, most people see a gradual brightening over the 28-day skin cell cycle following their treatment. We recommend leaving your skin alone for the first 24 hours, and of course, don’t pick at any of the coffee ground spots if you do get them!  You need to keep the area treated out of the sun for 7 days post-procedure.

Who performs this treatment at Beauty Lab + Laser?

How Much Does the IPL Photofacial Cost?

A single IPL Photofacial is $300, but we do recommend a series of treatments for optimal results. Discounted packages of 3 are $750.

How Long Will My Appointment Take?

The IPL Photofacial takes about 30 minutes for your full face.

Is There Any Prep For This Treatment?

We like to prep the skin with a Glycolic Peel 2-4 weeks before IPL Photofacial Treatment. Please stay out of the sun for a week before (and after) your appointment. Discontinue the use of retinol and AHAs/BHAs a week before your appointment as well. Antibiotics can make you photosensitive, which could increase your chances of burning, so if you are on antibiotics, we request that you wait 2 weeks after finishing them before you are treated. We can’t treat sunburned skin, or skin that has any open wounds or rashes, so other than making sure your skin is treatable, just come IPL Photofacial salt lake city into your appointment and we will take care of the rest!

Are There Any Products I Should Be Using At Home?

We recommend using medical-grade skincare products all the time, but especially post-procedure. We recommend the SkinCeuticals Foaming Cleanser, $29, Epidermal Repair Cream, $49, and of course, you should always be applying at least a 35 SPF daily. We recommend SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion SPF 50, $29, and Skin Medica Essential Defense SPF 32, $29. We also recommend SkinCeuticals PhytoCorrective Mask for soothing and cooling the skin post-treatment, $39. Skin Medica Lytera 2.0 is ideal for people treating pigmentation issues and is safe to use before and after your treatments, $99. We offer friends and family discounted pricing to all of our #Beautylabbers!
